My dinner

I was thinking what to eat for dinner... beef stew? braised pork? chicken soup? all were prepared by my wife and placed in the freezer.

"Ding Dong"! door bell rang. Mother Lily was at the gate.

"Simon, I have chicken rice for your..."

I have not returned the tiffin carrier she brought last week! (still in the car)

"Thank you Lily!"

"Don't mention, I cooked for my son, so some extra for you"

Lily is a vegetarian but will always cook for her children and friends non-vegetarian dishes...delicious dishes.

Chicken rice, potatoes-carrot-union soup and lady fingers。 Don't be jealous!

Inhumane

The guns were not aim at the robbers and thieves; the guns and force were not use for catching snatch thieves that caused many serious injuries and lives of many innocent citizens; the book of law were not being thrown at the big time squanders and corrupted politicians and officials...

The guns and force, the book of law were all aimed at the helpless, weaponless farmers in Cameron Highlands who toiled days and nights, rain and shine to turn the steep hills into farmlands that produce flowers, vegetables for the nation and the world.

The Pahang Land Office sent in enforcement officers and heavy armed Policemen all out to destroy farms at Batam Valley in Cameron Highlands which was on government land.

For whatever reasons, good and legal, it was inhumane. The Government are the protector of its citizens, not oppressor. A solution must be obtained before destruction.

It is the 『1 』 Malaysia we are so familiar with, before or after Najib!

Wonderfully forgetful

Before I left for work this morning, I have arranged tasks to be done along/on the way passing the town:
1. Take out the rubbish
2. Return tiffing carrier to Lily.
3. Drop a letter into the Post by the road side.
4. Bank in a cheque

After taking out the rubbish, I drove off .... when about to reach the main junction traffic light, I realised that I have missed the letter post...forgotten to post the letter.

Then I drove to the bank and banked in the cheque through fast cheque machine. When entering the car, I looked at the passenger seat... oh.. I have forgotten to turn to Lily's house, the tiffin carrier was still on the seat!

At federal highway, I wanted to take some water... alamak, forgotten to bring bottled water (1.5 litres)...

Forgotten 3 out of 5!

Can any one tells me where to get a smart phone or PDA... by pressing a button, it would tell me what task to do for the next two hours.... next 2 days... next 2 weeks...

What man!?!

Where are you Mama

After a day's hesitation, I decided to write about my visit to Luke in Miri on Thursday. Many friends would like to know how is Luke coping with his recent sad loss of his beloved wife Grace.

I was not able to get a ticket to attend Grace's funeral, so I decided to visit Luke two days later. I wanted to convey my (and many friends) condolences and support to him personally. We were friend almost 20 years.

I took the early morning flight and landed in Miri at about 9:35 am. Luke was there to receive me with his youngest daughter Emily, 14 months.

Since her mother's death, Emily clings to Luke and a few people only. The other four children already back to school.

Luke was busy doing some errant, applying for Grace's death certificate... photostating documents... and I tagged along.

Luke's parents and a sister were still in Miri to be with Luke.

Luke is coping with the situation courageously and calmly and expected to resume work on Friday. He is the head of Sin Chew Daily office in Brunei, 2 hours drive from Miri. If Emily sticks to him, he may have to bring her along.... until a permanent solution is found.

The road ahead for Luke and children is long and full of challenges. May our prayer and friendship accompany them always, together with his family members, relatives, give them the support in deed and in love.

My world cup TV dinner

Lily, our motherly Yoga teacher and friend nearby, brought me Petai Rice for dinner. She is a good cook and the Petai Rice is yamyam delicious! This is my World Cup TV dinner tonight!

God oh God

I was looking forward to a lazy evening.

After reaching home from legion visitation, I had a video conference with my wife and children in Aberdeen. The weather there was cool around 10 degree C.

Then an SMS came: Please pray for Grace, Luke's wife who died a while ago.

WHAT ? A shocking news! Sometimes sender in a hurry, did not reveal much details... and not to be confused, I have to request a confirmation: Yes, our good friend, Luke Lau of Brunei. His wife had a fatal fall in the bathroom and died not long ago....

I was shattered... shock and sad! and so was Luke's family. God ... what happened ...#%*@&*!

Grace, 35, left behind Luke and 5 young children aged 12, 11, 9, 7 and 1 respectively.

Home visitation

Our Queen of the Apostles curia organised a Day of Visitation today. I was assigned to go with Carlo and Janice to visit a family in Puchong.

The main purpose of the visitation is to use "master & student" method to train young legionaries on home visitation, one of the primary works of the Legion of Mary.

After the visitation, we visited The Chruch of our Lady of Guadalupe, a new and modern church opened about 2 years ago.

Before leaving, pray with the family for God's blessings

Rest in peace

This morning, at the St. Francis of Asisi Church in Cheras Kuala Lumpur, we bid farewell to fellow legionaries Helena Lim, 75, who died suddenly of a heart attack on Wednesday.

She was a loyal and faithful legionaries serving the Lord until her last day.

Legionaries gathered round her coffin, led by Curia President Bro. Kevin Chung, recited all Legion prayers before exiting the church.

Farewell my dear Helena. May God rest your soul.

1 Malaysia plus 1

Congratulations to the Prime Minister and his 『 1 Malaysia』 slogan.

While driving today to visit Fr. Henriot at the home of the Little Sister of the Poor, I found workers putting up a sentry post in the middle of the road.

1 more sentry post is being added at a residential estate in Cheras Kuala Lumpur. It means 1 more area is considered unsafe for living. 1 more area is engaging private security to protect their lives and properties.

The 『1 Malaysia』 KPI shows our security is improving!!

Judgement

When I returned from Kota Kinabalu on May 17, we saw Tian Chua at the airport waiting to collect his luggage after returning from Sibu by-election.

On June 11, when I sent my wife and children off to Paris, Tian Chua arrived at the departure gate at the same time. (Today I learned that he went to France also).

Tian Chua is the Opposition Member of Parliament for Batu Parliamentary constituency (Kuala Lumpur). He was always "bullied" and manhandled (drag, pull, punch ... ) by Police during many rallies and protest marches (see old post GIVE THEM TIME). And he is most probably the victim of mis-justice!

He was charged for biting 3 policemen on Dec 11 2007 and was sentenced by a Magistrate court to six months jail and RM3000.00 fine. This will disqualify him as an MP.

He appealed. Today, the Kuala Lumpur High Court dismissed his appeal but reduced his sentence to RM 2000.00 fine only. So no disqualification and no by-election.

The Judge said that “I would say the magistrate had went overboard in deriving to making speculations in arriving at the conviction.” “But I would not disturb the conviction because of the finding of fact,” However, the sentence was reduced to avoid a by-election. “Having him disqualified would result in a by-election to be called and this would involve a lot of funds. A by-election will also affect a lot of people.”

What ?!? A political judgement?

The Barisan National (the ruling coalition) knows very well that it is Waterloo for them in Batu... would be a slap on the face for Prime Minister Najib. So, smart enough not to disqualify Tian Chua. In Malaysia, the independence of the judiciary is not to be proud of.

Chua, who returned this morning from Paris, said: “I am pleasantly surprised... I was expecting the worst. Now I can go on with my struggle for justice and reforms,” he said, before proceeding to the registrar's office to pay the fine.

He can take his fight to another venue, another time....

Women live longer than men 女人比男人长寿

This morning, my Taichi group celebrated birthday of a member born this month.

After our breakfast, we went to visit an 83 year-old member who had undergone a knee replacement five weeks ago. She is able to drive her servant to do marketing.

If you see properly, it is me and a group of "motherly hens"! Where are all the men?

WOMEN LIVE LONGER THAN MEN!

Bon voyage

12 years ago, my wife left for Germany for her advance German language course. It was the opening day of the 1996 FIFA World Cup held in France. (my wife said so but could be four years earlier)

Our children were younger then. I had to take over the job of a mother for about 2 months during her absence.

Today, the opening day of 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa, my wife and two children, Adeline and Jonathan, left tonight on a 9:00pm flight for Paris, then to England to visit our youngest daughter Elizabeth in Aberdeen, Scotland.

And I am free and relax... but still have to look after 5 dogs..!

Bon Voyage .... and may God bless you all a wonderful holiday!
(correct photo date is 11-06-2010)

Rest in peace

Yesterday evening, I sent an SMS in Mandarin to friends staying in Kajang.

『Danny Lee passed way this morning, his body would be laid at the church parlour. He was baptised 3 years ago and left behind wife and two daughters. Please, if you are available, come for the wake and prayer to show support to his family』.

Danny and wife left home at about 6:30 pm for Kajang. Before reaching the bus stop, Danny collapsed. His wife dragged him to the bus stop. With the help of some students at the bus stop to support Danny, she went to the road trying to flag down cars to send her hustband to hospital. Many cars passed by but none stop. At last a bus came but also refused to take Danny. After pleading and crying, the bus conducted agreed drag Danny up to the bus and sent him to hospital. Upon arrival, doctor certified that he has died.

Danny was a lorry driver and lived a simple but stable life. But about 3 years ago, he had a fall and landed on his head. He was in coma and in critical condition for days. Doctor cut a piece of his skull to release pressure and the clot. He was saved but took almost a year to recovered. But the re-attachment of the skull disfigured his face. His right side (around the temple) was depressed and his face disfigured. His coordination movement suffered too. He was not able to work nor any one to employ him. His family survived on the meager income from collecting card boards and re-cycled items.

His wife and 2 daughters (age 13 and 15) had lost the pillar of the house.

The kind undertaker did not charge the family any expenses on the funeral including the coffin. All collections from friends and fellow Catholics would be given to the wife for their living expenses.

Besides 15 legionaries, many, including English speaking and fellow India parishioners, came for the wake.

Farewell 惜别

The Farewell Dinner was one of the highlights of the fellowship where the host of the next year's Fellowship would be announced.

In 2009 when the Fellowship was held in Taipei, there were more than one region offered to host the event in 2010. It resulted in a "hung" decision. Members chosen the new host in a secret ballot and the result was announced during the fellowship dinner. It was a moment of suspense.

The dinner were graced by His Lordship Rt. Rev. Selvanayagam (top), the Bishop of Penang Diocese, Fr. Michael Chia, the Parish Priest of St. Michael Church who gave his full support and encourage to the event, Fr. Philip Lai, Parish Priest of Our Mother of Perpetual Help Church, Fr. Bernard Paul, Parish Priest of Our Lady of Lourdes Church, Fr. Robin of Batu Gajah, Fr. Pu and Fr. Joseph Chen of Taiwan and many other invited distinguish guests.

Singing and dances were presented by legionaries of local and outside curiae keeping members and guests in stitches and rounds and rounds of applause filled the whole evening.

"The host of 2011 Legion Fellowship is ....... Kuching!" ended an exciting evening and a successful 2010 Legion Fellowship.

God's Blessings

The last day of the fellowship was an outing to Cameron Highlands. Being "bus sick", I decided to stay back, so was my room-mate Kevin.

We decided to go to the famous Fu Shan Dim Sam Restaurant to "tan cha" (eating dim sam and drinking tea).

Kevin is the son of the beloved late Thomas Chung, a senior legionary and dedicated servant of the Lord, contributed greatly towards his parish and the Archdiocese. He served in many portfolio and held important posts including as the Chairman of the KL Archdiocesan Chinese Language Apostolate Commision and President of the Queen of the Apostles Curia. I was honour to be one of the successors of the above two position.

Not by coincident but Providence, Kevin is the current Chairman and President of the above two posts.

We chatted for almost 2 hours... on many subjects and interest including his family, career, the church and Legion of Mary......

I am happy to note that all his brothers and sisters are doing well in their career and study. This is the blessing from God upon his father and the children.

May God continue to bless, protect and guide them and I sincerely wishing them all happiness and peace.

Home sweet home

So delicious.... all empty plates!

The 18th Legion Fellowship ended with a high note on Monday, 31/5/01 with a great farewell dinner hosted at a restaurant.

After bidding farewell to fellow legionaries by saying "See you next year in Kuching", I left for home this morning (1/6/010) at about 9:30 pm with Paul Chan's family and gang following me for a night stay in my house before going back to Singapore.

We arrived at Kajang at about 1:30 pm. I brought them to Semenyih for lunch at the famous restaurant serving their specialty " Nai Sa" (Butter fried Tilapia with salad)

For dinner, it was Satey and Chai Tao Kuih (Fried carrot cake), Joyce's favourite.

Actually I wanted to let them try the famous Kajang roadside "da bao", but was sold out... next time la. (More pics @ Facebook)

The famous Satey
