Hokkians' praying to Heavenly Jade Emporer

The ninth day of the Lunar New Year is a special day for the Hokkians - Thanking and Praying to the Heavenly Jade Emperor for liberating them from the onslaught of pirates and invading armies on the nine day of Lunar New Year.
Members of the family would gather on the night of 8th day, getting ready offerings - Roast pig, chicken, fish, cakes and sweet dessert, fruits and flowers and many others. At the strike of mid-night, the ceremony begins.
I was invited by my Lukut old friend Sam Teh to attend the celebrations. Present also was another old friend Alan Ang. Our friendship dates back to 30 years ago.
