Lest not forget 我们没忘记

Teoh Beng Hock , 30, the political aid of Selangor state Exco member Ean Yong Hian Hua, was found dead while under the custody of MACC (Malaysia Anti-corruption Commission) on July 16 2009.

The image of MACC and the Barisan government suffered tremendously as the investigation and interogation of Teoh were seemed as selective persecution and suppression of the Oppositions particularly within the Chinese community.

In an unprecedented move, the Head of the commission issued a statement (in Mandarin only) yesterday expressed pain and sadness over Teoh's death a year ago.

"I represent myself and all members of MACC. We share the same sadness and disappointment with Teoh's family over what happened on July 16, 2009," MACC commissioner Abu Kassim Mohamed said in the statement. "Although a year has passed since the unfortunate incident, we still feel the pain and sadness. As a father and an elder in the family, I can deeply feel the unbearable pain of losing a family member," he added.

Is he sincere? Is it a publicity stunt? Is it a part of image building of Najib government (by APCO)? Is it too little too late?

Time will tell. Whatever it is, the Head of MACC should be commended for his bold move (or stunt?).

There were many death under Police custody. Does the Police chief feels the same " As a father and an elder in the family, I can deeply feel the unbearable pain of losing a family member ".

雪兰莪州行政议员欧阳悍华前政治助理赵明福，30岁，于去年的七月十六日，在马来西亚反贪委员会的办公楼，被发现神秘的坠楼死亡。当时他是被反贪会扣留，协助调查贪污案。

反贪会及国阵政府的形象，在这启事件后，一落千丈，特别是在华人社会。赵明福的被扣留，普遍的被认为是政府利用反贪和来打击及压迫反对党的手段。

在这项前所未有的举止中，反贪会主席在赵明福逝世一周年之际，发表了一项以华文发出的书面文告，向赵明福家人致哀。

“我在此代表我本人，还有全体马来西亚反贪污委员会成员，对发生于2009年7月16日的事件，是和已故 赵明福家人一样同样的悲伤和失望，虽然，此不幸事件已经一年了，但是我们同样是感到痛苦与悲伤。作为一位父亲也是家中的长者，我是可以深深地体会到失去家 庭成员的无比伤痛。”

“马来西亚反贪污委员会希望验尸庭可以尽快审理有关案件，并达致审判结果。作为马来西亚反贪污委员会主 席，我要在此强调我们遵守验尸庭的审判结果。马来西亚反贪污委员会不会对任何涉案者妥协或给予袒护。”
反贪会主席的致哀文告是否有诚意？这是不是一个公共关系的伎俩？这是纳吉要重建形象的
策略之一（Apco 公关公司提供）？是不是来得太迟了（一年后）？时间会给予答案。

无论如何，反贪会主席这项行动，值得赞赏。

有好多无辜的人，特别是年轻人，在警察局或被警察扣留期间离奇的死亡，不知我们的总警长会不会也有一颗热血之心，如反贪会主席般感受：“作为一位父亲也是家中的长者，我是可以深深地体会到失去家 庭成员的无比伤痛。”
