Fr. Philip Obaso was ordained as a priest on April 2013 in his home country Kenya.

He is a Mill Hill missionary priest serving Sibu Diocese as an Assistant Parish Priest in St. Francis Xavier's Church in Kanowit.

He attended the just-concluded Young Priests Annual Gathering in Melaka and came to Kuala Lumpur attending to some personal matter.

We welcomed him to stay in our house.

Today, after morning Mass, I brought Fr. Philip to visit Putrajaya, the grand administrative capital of Malaysia.

Later in the evening, he has the "World famous" Kajang Satey for dinner.

Cool day in The Farm

We visited Andrew at The Farm today.

Farm is haven for a hot and hazy day.

Andrew is going for his eyes' cataract operation next week, thus the Farm would be closed for the next 3 weeks.

We were surprised to see many durians "dropped" today ... It is durian season in Malaysia.

After lunch, we went to Andrew's house in Mantin town. Andrew has renovated his house recently. It is tastefully decorated, and very cosy and comfortable.

Wishing Andrew a successful operation, and years of clear-vision happy days ahead.

Andrew.

A day out 一天之游

For the past one month, hot and dry weather coming back to Malaysia.

It has not been raining for the past one month. Certain places in Kuala Lumpur are expericing water supply disruption.

To add salt to the wound, haze is back .. to an unhealthy level.

Today, my wife and I, together with housemaid Agnes and good friend Karen, we headed to the mountain - Fraser's Hill, which is about 130 kms from Kajang.

Fraser's Hill used to be the favourable mountain resort of the country. However, due to lackluster promotion and management,  not tourists crowd, especially foreigners, coming to this hill resort.

We left Kuala Lumpur at about 9:30 am, reaching Batang Kali for the famous Lo noodles and prawn noodles for lunch at noon.

Enroute, we stopped by St. Jude's Church in Rawang for a brief visit.

We reached Fraser's Hill at about 1:45 pm.

It was warm at Fraser's Hill too but the cooling breeze making our afternoon stay an enjoyable one.

Opening of new Rumha Besar (Big house)

Bong Ajang

Fr. Stephen Ng & family members with the children of Bong Ajang, his relatives

When we talk about Orang Asli (Aborigines), Fr. Naden's name comes to our mind. He is also known as " Father Janggkut  (Bearded Priest)."

In his priestly ministry, Fr. Naden spent a great part of his life pastoring Orang Asli, and eradicating poverty by teaching them skills and marketing techniques.

A Kampong (settlement) of Orang Asli in Gembor Baru, Bekok near Tangkak Johor is one of them.

A Chinese Catholic known as Bong Ajang from Air Salak, Melaka, married an Orang Asli girl during the second World War, moved here to start farming the land.

In 1991, he heard about a "Bearded Priest" was celebrating Christmas in a settlement nearby, so he contacted him and invited him to come over to teach him and children Catechism.

Later, a Rumah Besar (Big house - chapel) was built by Fr. Naden, a.k.a Father Janggut in 1992. With the completion of the Rumah Besar, the residents of the settlement were baptised.

Bong Ajang passed away in 2000 at the age of 78.

With the passing of time, and the onslaught of white ants,  the Rumah Besar became unusable.

The Melaka-Johor Diocese has given approval and financial support to start building a new Rumah Besar a few years ago.

On 8/6/2014, my wife and I, together with Stephen and Anna Wong, were invited to witness the official opening and dedication of the modern Rumah Besar which cost more than two hundred thousands Malaysia Ringgit.

Bishop Paul Tan, Vicar General Mongr James, 5 priests and a Permanent Decon together with about 300 well wishers, benefactors and parishioners attended this ceremony.

One of the priests, Rev. Fr. Stephen Ng CDD, is a close relative to this Aboriginal settlers.

The opening ceremony included: Blessing and opening of the main doors, Blessing of the Altar and Mass.

There are about 18 families staying in this Kampong.

This settlement is called Kampong C. There are 2 more Orang Asli settlements nearby, which are called Kampong A and B respectively.

Fellowship lunch was served after Mass. Local residents and children presented items of Aborigine dances to the enthusiastic crowd.

Celina and Okomen Japanese Restaurant

Celina with boyfriend (business partner) Alan

Okonomiyaki

In September 2006, I met a young school girl in Brunei attending 2nd Young Legionaries Fellowship. I called her "Spice Girt" and became my god-daughter.

In May 29,2014, I set foot on her joint-venture Janpanese restaurant in Queensbay Mall, Penang, enjoying its speciality - Okonomiyaki ( Japanese Pancake).

She was called "Spice Girl" not because of her dressings nor makeup, but because of her unique strong character, independent thinking and progressive thinking.

Today, Celina is a pretty lady, full of confident, and a managing partner of a Japanese restaurant.

My wife and I, together with 2 other friend, arrived at the OKOMEN Japanese Restaurant, which is situated at Zone North, Level 3, Queensbay Mall. It is a restaurant with difference.

This restaurant served no Sushi but Osaka area menu such as the famous Osaka style Okonomiyaki and Ramen.

This is the second restaurant opened by the partnership. The first one opened about 2 years ago at Sri Hartamas area in Kuala Lumpur.

We are happy to see Celina.

May we wish her and partner good health, prosperity and good business always.

Legion's Fellowship

The 22nd Annual Legion Fellowship was held from May 29 to June 2, at Copthorne Orchid Hotel in Penang.

About 339 Mandarin-speaking Legionaries from Malaysia (East & West), Singapore, Brunei, Taiwan and Hong Kong attend this annual event.

It was a homecoming event that gave the Legionaries from these areas an opportunity to meet new friends, exchanging experiences and living out the spirit of  Catholic Church - One, Universal, Holy and Apostolate.

The Fellowship was opened by Vicar General of Penang Diocese Rev. Fr. Michael Cheah at a welcoming dinner held on the evening of May 29.

He expressed great appreciation of the service and mission of the Legion apostolate. He highlighted in his homily during a Thanksgiving Mass prior to the opening, that the church needs the Spirit of Mary now more than ever. He encouraged Legionaries to continue their good work of evangelisation and spreading the Good News of Christ.

On June 1, Bishop Sebestian welcomed participating legionaries to the Cathedral during 8:00 am Mass. He also expressed his appreciaton and encouragement to all legionaries for their good works.

He told legionaries that he would send each and everyone of them back to their respective diocese and parish, to be the disciples and missionaries of Christ.

During the Fellowship, talks were given by various priests on the them "Called, Chosen, Sent."

Fr. Joseph Chen of  Taipei talked on "Called". He is a popular speaker back home in Taiwan but also well know in this region (Malaysia, Singapore an Brunei)

Fr. Fabian Kong from Sibu diocese is a young and energetic priest. His sessions on "Chosen" were filled with songs and actions, including dancing, making the subject matter lively and easily understood.

Fr. Aloysius Tan from Tanjong Malim is a Penang born and breed priest with a nickname "Dou Sha Bing" (a Penang's famous biscuits). His in-hurried but humourous style of talking constantly put the audience in stitches.
