1. GM Plaza (批发中心) 。

For the fun

We use many Cosway products.

Today, we went for Cosway free photo sessions at a distribution outlet in Kajang.

We went for the fun of it ... and spent almost 2 hours, most of them were on the makeup for the ladies.

Friendship

David Chia is an old friend, learned and humourous. Many called him Lao Zong ( O Chief) as a sign of respect.

He is a man who treasures friends and relationships. When he learned that Clement, an old friend from Sabah was in KL, he immediately arranged to meet up over a Buk Kut Teh lunch today.

Raymond Ong and I also knew Clement and had not met for more than 10 years.

Computer class

Slow and steady

I have started a weekly computer class for senior citizens since Oct 30 (Wednesday) at my house.

I am no computer expert but willing to share my 2 cents worth of self-taught knowledge with them -- some basic knowledge on how to use a computer and the use of social media.

They are senior citizens that interested to know computer but no one to turn to.

The first lesson attracted about 10 persons, many were "come and see".

The following week settled into a more realistic and manageable 4 persons.

So far so good ... all of us are enjoying the sessions and the fellowship.

A lady with zero knowledge of computer (not even to switch on the computer), after 2 lessons, already had set up her email account, sending and receiving  email. She will open her Facebook account next week and go surfing the cyber world!

One more new member is expected to join us next week.

This is something that I like to do!

My parents in law

Laksa (curry noodles)

My father & mother in law are in excellent health in consideration of their age (86 and 81respectively).

They have good appetite too - 3 meals plus 2 tea breaks daily, and usually on the dot !

My mother in law had just undergone her caterac laser surgery and is recovering in my house for the past 10 days.

Today, to relieve them of boredom, we brought them out to Seremban to visit our friends Anna and Stephen Ling, and had Laksa (curry noodles) as lunch.

For real

Lithuanian-born artist Zacharevic had reportedly been invited to the city to put up his artwork, and contributed three pieces earlier this month. It attracted controversy.

The ‘contentious’ mural, dubbed ‘JB, home of Malaysia's very own Legoland’, shows Lego figures portraying an armed robber lying in wait to rob from a woman carrying a Chanel handbag. (Located at Jalan 9/1, Taman Molek, Johor Baru)

The mural reminds Johor Baru residents of the high crime rate in the city.

Many agreed this is the true situation in Johor Baru ... in fact in most of the major cites in the country.

Malaysia has been plagued by high street crime rate and the Police seemed helpless in controlling the situation.

However, the Johor Baru city council does not think so. They accused Zacharevic's artwork has tarnished the image of the city and planing to remove it.

Typical  third world, dumb ass and ostrich mentality of our government officials.

"Art does not damage a city's image, crime does," rebutted Zacharevic yesterday in an email response to Malaysiakini.

(Zacharevic has done numerous well acclaimed murals in Penang.)

All in the family

This morning, 10 Taichi group members visited Mary, who suffered fractured Tibia and bruises on an accident about 2 weeks ago.

Taichi group membership consists of 15 % parishioners of the Holy Family church and 85 % non-Christians (mostly Buddhists). However, mutual respect and cooperation see us through the past 26 years since its formation in 1987.

Mary is a Catholic who joined us about a year ago.

She is recovering well.

Mary,in short

Lean Horse. Bell Rings

Kuala Lumpur Archdiocesan Chinese Language Apostolate Commission (ACLAC) celebrated its 20th Anniversary on Nov 6 at the Church of the Holy Family, Kajang.

A book “Lean Horse . Bell Rings – The history and story of Catechists in Malaysia” was launched in conjunction with the anniversary celebrations.

The Thanksgiving Mass was celebrated at 5:00pm with Fr. Clement Lim as the main celebrant, and con-celebrated by 12 other priests, including Fr. Philip Tan, the Superior of CDD in Malaysia, Fr. George, the Parish Priest of Holy Family Church. Present were many religions Sisters and Brothers, and about 500 laity and well-wishers from 3 dioceses in Peninsular Malaysia.

Fr.Kang, former Monsignor of Penang Diocese and former principle of the Batu Gajah Catechist Training Center, flew from Hong Kong to attend this conspicuous occasion. He officiated the launching ceremony of the book after the Mass.

About 18 aged Catechists also attended the Mass and ceremony.

The book was initiated about 10 years ago by Fr. Joseph Ng, a Jesuit who once served as one of the spiritual advisor to ACLAC. The project took off about one and a half year ago with the support and active participation of Rev. Sr. Theresa Chew, Rev. Fr. Lawrence Ng, by forming a committee filled by many talented and enthuciastic youths. Ye Ning, an experienced media worker and writer, agreed to author of the book, is the single most important factor ensuring the success of the project.

The Foreword in the book by His Grace Paul Tan, Bishop of Melaka-Johor Diocese summed up the importance and historical values of the book:

“Undeniably, the church general history tends to centered on the consecrated religious clergy. In the process of evangelization, the Catechists are although an integral part of the medium bridging the laity and missionary, but are being ignored simply because they are not the consecrated ones. Now, I am delighted that, with the publication of the book  [Lean Horse.Bell Rings – The history and story of the Catechists in Malaysia ], we have finally discovered a segment of precious history of our local church, and allow the “catechists, a lost piece of the beautiful patchwork”, be united and merged into the history of local church as a whole.” (Translation by the blogger)

The title of the book “Lean Horse.Bell Rings” literally means "Lean horse ringing bell".

According to the author, the catechists lived a frugal and simple lives and are best be described as “lean horse”. However, their footsteps of evangelization brought them to the byways and highways, remotest and poorest areas of the country, thus ringing the bells of Good News along the way, bringing the love of Christ to everyone they met.

The 20th Anniversary of ACLAC also marked an important milestone of the organization.

It is the continuation of the objective and spirit of the organisatioon named “Chinese Apostolate”. It was formed about 40 years ago by a group of Chinese speaking priests ( Many had been called to rest by the Lord) to look after the Chinese speaking laity.

Our local church, by nature, is an English speaking church, thus it requires extra effort to care for these vernacular communities and for effective evangelisation.

I do not have statistic of Chinese speaking population in our country, but by looking at the number of Chinese schools, newspapers and publications, it would not be a small figure.

Ignoring this segment of the society is ignoring the spirit of evangelization.

Many non-Chinese and non-Chinese educated priests had taken up Mandarin is a good sign of the work of the Spirit. (And my great respect and admiration for their effort and sacrifices)

On this special occasion, may I pray that the Spirit guides our local church, continues in its understanding and dialoguing with different language communities, the marginalized, the poor and migrants, discovering the humble presence of Christ in the richness of each community, seeing the beauty of God’s creation of diversity in traditions, cultures and languages, thus bring about the genuine spirit of communion of communities.  It will be then a truly beautiful piece of patchwork pleasing to God!

May ACLAC and all its members continue to be the effective "witnesses and promoters of communion with God, with one another and the creation." (FABC 10th plenary statement No.4)

Phunnies

My Sirname PHUN means another word for "fun" but it implies more fun -- like extra fun !

Tonight my wife and I were invited by Kian Ling and Lynn sisters to a dinner celebrating her mother Swee Lan's birthday.

Just 3 tables, 24 of us, mostly old friends and Swee Lan's Yoga classmates.

It was fun-filled, with laughter and good food.

How old is she ? Does it matters?

We are all Phunnies !!!!

(See pictures on Facebook)

(Phunnies)!

Visit and feast

Today the Catholic Church celebrated All Saints' Day, honouring all saints, known and unknown.

My wife and I attended 7:00 am Mass, feeling proud of our Catholic roots and tradition.

At about 11:00 am, we left for Port Dickson with Agnes our housemaid for a "Lawat & Makan" trip. (Visiting & Feasting trip)

This is Agnes first trip to Port Dickson, a seaside resort town about 75 kms from Kajang.

Our first destination was my nephew Andrew's office.

Andrew set up his business at Port Dickson about 2 years ago and I had promised to pay him a visit then.

He was happy to see us and brought us for lunch at a nearby coffee shop.

The food was excellent.

Expressing our thanks and appreciation to Andrew, we left after lunch for a drive along the coastal road.

We stopped at Thistle Hotel, formerly Guaman Resort Hotel, in which we stayed before. Apparently, it has changed ownership.

We also stopped by the Champagnat Youth Center which was owned by the Marist Brother. I found a new block has been built and old block has been renovated. I attended a few formation programmes here before.

Leaving Port Dickson, we arrived at Lukut to visit old friend Ah Hui and wife Ah Lian.

Again, we were greeted warmly ...

We had dinner together before leaving for home at about 8:00 pm.

It was a great day!
